A jealous 30-year-old member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in Quezon City yesterday, police said.
Reports reaching the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) in Camp Karingal identified the suicide as Corporal Prince Wilfred Gerona of the Philippine Army from Cagayan.
Police said that the incident happened at 2:45 a.m. at the rented house of the victim and his live-in partner in Barangay Holy Spirit.
The victim, his live-in partner Geraldine Casia, a saleslady, and Casia’s friend and co-worker Fe Geno were having a drink.
Casia bared to Gerona that her store manager is admiring and courting her. Gerona stood up and entered their room, prompting Casia to follow him and explain her side.
Seconds later, a gunshot emanated from the room followed by another. The victim slumped to the ground bloodied.
The incident was reported to the barangay and police by Geraldine and her friend.
Cursory examination revealed that the victim died due to a bullet wound to the head.
Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered three fired caliber .9mm cartridge cases, two deformed fired bullets, one live ammunition on its chamber, and eight caliber .9mm bullets.
“Ang tinitignan namin eh selos ang dahilan kung bakit siya nagpakamatay. Nabalitaan may nanliligaw sa live-in partner kaya nagbaril sa ulo,” said Supt. Segundo Lagundi Jr., chief of the QCPD Station 6 in Batasan.
Insp. Elmer Monsalve, homicide section investigation chief of the QCPD-CIDU, said a thorough probe is being conducted on the incident.
