The Philippines continued its winning streak in beauty pageants abroad when another Cebuana won second runnerup at the 43rd Miss Intercontinental beauty contest in Magdeburg, Germany Thursday (Friday, Manila time), a show that puzzled many die-hard Filipino pageant fans.
Kris Tiffany Janson, financial analyst, was also named Miss Photogenic and Miss Intercontinental Asia and Oceania Award.

Janson shared the Miss Intercontinental Asia award with this year’s winner Phataraporn Wang from Thailand.
First-runner up was Jeslie Mergal of Cuba.
Janson, 25, was the second Cebuana to win an international pageant this year. Last November 29, Jamie Herrell was crowned 2014 Miss Earth.
Both trained under the Kagandahang Flores beauty camp, headed by topnotch mentor Rodgil Flores.
Hanson was praised for doing well in the Miss Intercontinental beauty contest, as critics believed that she would really make it big on coronation night.
“This special recognition illustrates worldwide acclaim and appreciation for Filipina beauty, grace, and substance, and we are proud of Kris’ accomplishment,’’ a statement sent by Ada de Pedro of the Araneta Center Inc. corporate communications and PR said.
This year’s Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant baffled many Filipino fans.
It is a tradition for the Miss Intercontinental pageant to choose an intercontinental queen for every continent.
Miss Philippines has been chosen as Miss Intercontinental Queen of Asia and Oceania. Other intercontinental queens were South Africa, Miss Intercontinental Africa; Cuba, Miss Intercontinental North America; Portugal, Miss Intercontinental Europe; and Argentina, Miss Intercontinental South America. From the group, the top three winners will be chosen.
Moments later, out of nowhere, it was announced that Miss Thailand will join the Top 5 candidates. Organizers said that Miss Philippines had tied with Miss Thailand for the Intercontinental Queen of Asia and Oceania award.
Normally, only five delegates – a winner for every continent – will join the final round.
Miss Thailand eventually became the 2014 Miss Intercontinental winner.
“Something fishy in Germany,’’ said a pageant fan who watched the live streaming of the beauty contest early yesterday morning.
“With her awards as Miss Photogenic and Miss Asia-Oceania, Kris was well-positioned to win as Miss Intercontinental. It was somewhat puzzling that Miss Thailand won even if Kris won the Asia-Oceania title,’’ said pageant mentor and critic Jay Patao.
