The Department of Education has asked schools to observe 44 seconds of
silence on Monday, in honor of the 44 Special Action Force police
officers who were killed in the Jan. 25 Mamasapano clash.
"On
Monday (February 2, 2015), during our flag-raising ceremonies, let us
collectively honor our 44 SAF heroes and remember all those who perished
in Mamasapano, Maguindanao by observing 44 seconds of silence plus one
more second for all other casualties," Department of Education Assistant
Secretary Reynaldo Antonio Laguda said in his instructions.
Laguda
also urged students to pray for no more loss of lives in the path to
peace, and for the academic community to pray that schools foster
understanding and tolerance for national healing.
Tributes
continued to pour in for the 44 slain SAF men over the weekend, after
President Benigno Aquino III ordered a national day of mourning Friday.
