A Taguig City regional trial court on Monday allowed model Deniece Cornejo to post bail along with two co-accused in the serious illegal detention case filed against them by actor Vhong Navarro.
The court set the bail at P500,000 each for her, businessman Cedric Lee and Simeon Palma Raz Jr.
“Although there is probable cause for the charging of the crime of serious illegal detention, the prosecution had failed to provide strong evidence that said illegal detention is actually serious or actually for the sake of kidnapping. In such a case, the Court has the duty to grant the accused bail,” said the ruling dated  September 12, 2014.
“The accused herein are in such considerable financial condition as to afford a battery of well-known lawyers. Their previous attempt to elude the law was also well-publicised. The court therefore deems the bail amount for each accused for P500,000 to be equitable herein.”

Defense lawyers praised the Taguig City RTC Branch 271 for the decision.
“We are thankful and we welcome this positive development in the case,” said Connie Aquino, the legal counsel for Lee and Raz.
“This is a big step in proving what we have been reiterating from the inception of the case which is the truth that our clients are innocent of the charges against them,” Aquino added.
Cornejo’s lawyer Sal Panelo said they have yet to receive a copy of the decision.
Navarro’s counsel Alma Mallonga said they will file a motion for reconsideration.
Last month, Taguig Judge Paz Esperanza Cortes denied the appeal of Cornejo and Lee for their continued custody at the National Bureau of Investigation and Camp Crame, respectively.
