Washington, Sep 20 (ANI): US boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has been ordered by Nevada boxing regulators to appear before them next week to answer questions about scenes aired on the Showtime network ahead of his fight on September 13 against Marcos Maidana.
Specifically, the Nevada boxing regulators want to ask Mayweather about two lengthy fights in his gym where neither fighter got a rest break, and another scene showing marijuana being used at his Las Vegas mansion.
Francisco Aguilar, head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, said that they all know TV is drama but their main responsibility is the health and safety of fighters, adding that before they draw a conclusion about what they saw on TV they want to make sure that they have all the information, Fox News reported.
Mayweather is shown on the 'All Access' show promoting his fight cheering on two fighters at his gym who fought 31 minutes straight without taking a break. The WBA and WBC welterweight boxing champion explained on camera that it is 'the dog house', the rules are that they fight till whoever quits.
Aguilar said that he is concerned that fighters could be hurt by not having rest breaks and proper attention in the ring adding that it is the commission's duty to protect fighters, whether it is in sparring or in the ring during a real fight.
Mayweather will appear Tuesday before the commission both in his role as a fighter and a promoter. His Mayweather Promotions was licensed earlier this year and he has a stable of fighters who train at his Las Vegas gym.
Mayweather will also be questioned about a scene in the show where he watched as several women rolled marijuana joints in his home, though Aguilar said that it was not his major concern. (ANI)
