Restive Mayon Volcano continued to show signs of activity, with four volcanic quakes recorded in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

In its 8 a.m. update on Tuesday, Phivolcs also said it observed a moderate emission of white steam plumes drifting southwest and west-northwest.

Also, it noted a faint crater glow from the center of the dome Monday night, and measured a new lava flow first observed last Sunday at 300 to 400 meters long.

These indicate Mayon remains "in a state of unrest due to the movement of potentially eruptible magma," Phivolcs said.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs said the alert level at Mayon remains at "3," meaning magma is at the crater and a hazardous eruption is possible within weeks.

Since Phivolcs raised the alert level at Mayon to "3," more than 12,000 families living in the volcano's danger zone had been evacuated.
