For the second straight year, a showbiz beauty was crowned Miss World Philippines Sunday night.
Actress and TV host Valerie Weigmann bested 25 other aspirants en route to the prestigious title won last year by reigning Miss World 2014 Megan Young.
Born in Wiesbaden, Germany and standing at 5′ 8″, the 24-year-old Filipino-German charmer represented Albay in the pageant. By some coincidence, Valerie’s success in the industry mirrors that of her Miss World Philippines predecessor.
Like Megan, who entered showbiz via the reality show route in “Starstruck”, Valerie first shot to national prominence as a housemate of “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Plus”, a show where Megan had also appeared. Valerie’s housemates in her 2008 batch included Andi Eigenmann, Beauty Gonzalez, Robi Domingo and eventual winner Ejay Falcon.
Like Megan who also had stints as a VJ in Channel V and as host for several shows on Studio 23, Valerie was a guest co-host of Willie Revillame’s noontime show “Wowowee” in 2010 prior to her latest stint as one of the Dabarkads hosts of another noontime hit, “Eat Bulaga”.
And just like Megan who dabbled in acting prior to joining Miss World Philippines last year, Valerie had also made her mark with notable supporting roles like the mysterious Enigma on TV5’s superhero series “Kidlat” headlined by Derek Ramsay. She was also part of the cast of Marlon Rivera’s “Ang Huling Henya” starring Rufa Mae Quinto.
Also, just like in last year’s pageant where Megan romped off with most of the special awards prior to winning the crown, Valerie was the runaway winner of 12 special awards this year as she lived up to her pre-pageant hype as the heavily-favored candidate to beat.
Aside from the crown that would also entitle her to represent the Philippines for the 2014 Miss World beauty pageant that will be held in London this December 14, Valerie also won Best in Long Gown, Best in Swimwear, Best in Fashion Runway, Miss World Camsur, Miss Solaire, Jesi Mendez Salon Ambassadress, Miss Reducin, Miss Bluewater Day Spa, Miss Bench, Miss Olay, Miss Figlia and Miss Hana.

Four other finalists took runner-up honors: 1st Princess Lorraine Kendrickson who also won Best in Sports; 2nd Princess Nelda Ibe, who was also voted as Miss Photogenic and won Miss Organique; 3rd Princess Nicole Kim Donesa, another showbiz candidate who is a member of the cast of the gag show, “Bubble Gang”; and 4th Princess Rachel Marie Peters who also won the Yahoo! Readers Choice award and Miss Security Bank’s Most Alluring.
Other special awardees were Best in Talent Jean Marie Feliciano, Miss Friendship Kristine Angeli Estoque and Christine Balaguer (tied) and Miss Sun Cellular Kimberly Anne Sarreal.
If Valerie goes on to win Miss World 2014, it will only be the fourth time in the 53-year old history of the pageant that a country has won back-to-back titles. Only Sweden, the United Kingdom and India had achieved this rare feat.
